I graduated from Mary Fletcher School of Nursing affiliated with UVM in Burlington, Vermont in 1971 as a RN. In 1993 I graduated from Johnson State College with a BS in Health Education. My first job was on the Respiratory Therapy and Code 99 team in Burlington, Vermont.This provided a background that lead to various nursing jobs and opportunities over the years.
Head Nurse of a Pediatric and Medical / Surgical Unit Emergency Room Home Health Nursing in the Northeast Kingdom ( sometimes skiing in to visit patients) Island Pond National Health Clinic Site - We provided routine and emergency care for Essex County Brighton Ambulance EMT and later took the EMT-B course In 1987 I became school nurse for WSESU covering East/ West Dummerston, Guilford and Vernon. In 2001 I became full time at Vernon.
As a School Nurse I provide services in accordance with the VT School Health Services Standards of Practice. Some of these include: Assessment and treatment of acute illness and injuries Specialized care to student with complex medical needs, including medication administration Promotes and assist in the control of communicable diseases Health Assessments Maintain and interpret health records
I have been involved with C.H.I.V.E.S, District Wellness Team, EST,Crisis Committee , WSESU Health Education Committed, WSESU Medical Team,Christmas Stocking volunteer and Girls on The Run coach for Vernon students. I am a member of VSSN and Delta Kappa Gamma.
I believe to be successful school nursing practice requires collaboration with students,parents, staff and outside resource providers. I feel very lucky to work in the Vernon Community. |
