I graduated from the University of Vermont in 1994 with a bachelors degree in physical education and teacher certification for grades K through twelve. I spent my student teacher internship at Vernon Elementary with John Stetzel and Brattleboro Union High School with Sheryl Libardoni and knew at that point that I had a love for Vernon Elementary. My husband Jim and I along with our three children, Morgan, Kyle and Hailey moved from New Hampshire to Vernon shortly after our oldest turned five years old so that our children could attend VES. I am very honored to be a part of the VES community not only as a parent, but now as a teacher as well. My first teaching job was at Green St. School in Brattleboro, VT beginning in the 1995-96 school year. During this time I was also trained in Adventure education through High 5 and Plymouth State and ran an adventure program for grades 5 and 6. I took some time to be a stay at home mom and eventually returned to Green St. School to continue my career in education. After completing my tenth year of teaching, I was fortunate enough to begin my new journey here in Vernon. As a physical educator, my main goal is to prepare students for a lifetime of physical activity by introducing them to a variety of skills, activities and concepts. Lesson plans are broken down into four areas, an intro activitiy (2-3 min.), fitness time (7-10 min.), lesson focus (15 - 20 min.) and a game (5 - 10 min.). Kindergarten through 2nd grade meet twice a week for 30 min. and 4th through 6th grade meet twice a week for 40 min. Co-operation, respect and sportsmanship are highlighted throughout the school year as well as perseverance, safe bodies and responsible behavior.
